代々木上原という、成熟した住宅地。昭和48年に竣工したビンテージマンションの一室は、南面に20メートルという圧倒的な幅を有し、井之頭通りからの潤沢な自然光を受け入れる恵まれた環境にあった。本プロジェクトは、映画製作会社を率いる若い女性オーナーの「住居兼仕事場」として、この歴史と恵まれた環境の器を現代のライフスタイルに合わせて再構成するリノベーションである。求められたのは、単なる機能の充足ではない。映画の制作会社という創造の場でありながら、プライベートな生活の営みを内包し、かつオーナーが幼少期から慈しんできたアート作品が空間の精神性を支える、多様な顔を持つ場であった。

奥行きが約6メートルと浅く、幅が約20メートルという横長の特徴的なプランに対し、住戸を単一の個室に分割するのではなく、光を共有する「ひと繋がりの空間」として再構築した。この均一になりがちな奥行きの空間に対し、単調さを回避し、豊かな居心地を生み出すための仕掛けとして、「光のムラ」を作る試みを行っている。下部を解放した壁面、高さを操作した新設の天井、既存の荒いRC・モルタル躯体の表し、そして透過性のあるレースカーテン。これらの要素を重層的に配置し、部分的に床の段差で視線を操作することで、空間の奥行きや領域を緩やかに変化させている。はっきりとした直線的な面構成に加え、カーテン越しに揺らぐ光と影で繊細な空気感を空間にもたらした。

本プロジェクトでは、20メートルの住戸を西側の「居住空間」と東側の「仕事空間」という二つの大きな領域に分節している。物理的に分断するものではなくレイヤーによる柔らかな重なりによる操作にこだわった。
Work & Public：仕事空間には、スタッフとの打ち合わせや作業を行う場を設けた。日中は開かれたオフィスとして機能し、プロジェクターで映像を投影しながら映画制作のクリエイティビティを共有する。
Private & Living：居住空間側は床を300ミリ上げることで、物理的にプライベート性を高めると同時に、水回りとのフラットな接続を実現した。

Yoyogi-Uehara is a mature, sophisticated residential area. This project involved the renovation of a vintage apartment building, completed in 1973, which boasts an extraordinary 20-meter-wide south-facing facade, bathing the interior in the abundant natural light of Inokashira-dori Avenue. The brief was to reimagine this historic vessel—now the residence and workplace of a young female film production company owner—to suit a contemporary lifestyle. The goal was not merely to satisfy functional requirements, but to create a multi-faceted space that serves as both a creative hub for film production and a private sanctuary, anchored by a collection of art that the owner has cherished since childhood.

Given the unit’s unique, elongated floor plan—approximately 20 meters wide but only 6 meters deep—we chose not to divide the space into isolated rooms. Instead, we reconstructed it as a “single continuous space” that shares light throughout. To avoid the monotony often associated with such uniform depth and to foster a rich, comfortable atmosphere, we introduced “shades of light” (light gradients). By strategically layering elements—wall segments with open bases, ceilings of varying heights, exposed raw RC (reinforced concrete) and mortar structures, and translucent lace curtains—we subtly shifted the spatial depth and defined areas through changes in floor levels and lines of sight. In addition to the clear, linear composition of surfaces, the light and shadows fluctuating through the curtains bring a delicate, ethereal quality to the space.

In this project, the 20-meter span is bifurcated into two primary zones: the “residential space” on the west and the “workspace” on the east. We focused on managing this division not through physical barriers, but through the soft overlapping of layers.

Private & Living: The residential side is elevated by 300 millimeters. This physical lift creates a distinct sense of privacy while simultaneously allowing for a seamless, flat connection to the water-related areas (kitchen and bathroom).

Work & Public: The workspace provides an area for meetings and collaboration with staff. During the day, it functions as an open office where creativity in filmmaking is shared via projections on the walls.
